Ø A
Defensive Driving Course teaches techniques that encompass more details
than standard driving methods.
Ø When
using defensive driving techniques, you reduce your risk for accidents, and
can usually avoid the mistakes of other drivers.
The State of
Tennessee has created a special Driver Improvement section of the
Department of Safety to offer improvement programs to drivers, including
defensive driving techniques. This department oversees the driving records
for all licensed drivers in the state.
The
Department of Safety sends out notices to drivers who approach suspensions
due to high point tallies on their driving record. Learn more about Driving and Points here.
Lowering
the cost of insurance is another reason you may want to take a defensive
driving course. Before enrolling, contact your own insurance company to
find out how much of a discount you may receive. Some insurance companies
offer discounts based on age or driving record.
The local courts decide on an individual basis whether
traffic tickets can be dismissed due to your participation in a Defensive
Driving Course. Their decision will be based on your current violation and
your previous driving history.
